Before my grandfather passed away he lived by the philosophy that "sleep is an insideous disease". What he was trying to get at was that why by comatose for a third of your life!
Ever since I heard that statement I decided to live my life like that and squeeze as much life out of every second. Yep, I normally only sleep about 4-5 hours a night as well....which is brilliant as the house is so quite when all the kids are asleep!
There is a saying, "If you want something done, give it to a busy person." I couldn't agree more. Busy people don't seem to waste their time on staring at the box or having endless discussions with themselves about what they plan on doing.

I love sleep - I love waking up in the morning and realising I have rested from all that I have had to do. It also makes me feel as if everything is not in my control. For eight hours I can place my trust in someone else's hands. That's what I love about sleep.
Time is precious, but priorities is really what it's all about. What we spend our time on is what we're saying is important to us. There was a time when life moved at a much slower pace, something is giving as we pack more into our time, question is what?

You bring up some good points about sleeping soundly and safely but.....there is nothing quite like the silence of 2am to get the creative juices flowing.

I'm dead asleep at 2am. I do need my rest. And I am someone who fits in as much as I can into my waking hours - almost like I'm hyperactive, I have to keep busy. But I was reading something from Os Hillman online yesterday (Anzac Day). I was planning to do some work but his article was about workaholics and the need to separate work time from break time. I took that as a sign that I should be doing the same so decided to pursue one of my hobbies instead - was still online but not working, instead I was setting up a new blog on gardening and writing.

I like both sides of your discussion here. I think for every person it's about finding the right balance. I'm a person who loves and needs my sleep, but I always aim to squeeze what I can out of every day. My philosophy is 'A Little Often'. It's amazing what you can achieve through consistency and discipline. A little each day and before you know it you've gone a long way in life. People are often amazed at what I have done in my relatively short life. 'A Little Often' is my key. I go through seasons more productive than others. At times I can feel really condemned about that but I've found that those times come for a reason and we need to embrace the high times as well as the low times. Sometimes a little often is all we can manage. Sometimes we have to stop all together but if we have built discipline into our lives it makes it easier to get back on the horse again once we're back on track. Sometimes it's for our benefit and other times we are needed to be more attentive to the needs of those around us. We need to be careful not to get so focused on our world that we don't take notice of those around us. We need to be sensitive to the season we are in. It's not always summer, so too we shouldn't expect that there is only ever one season in life.
