tglover I love your story and your openness, which got me thinking about the issue of transparency. We all love it when people open up and share their struggles because it helps us to unite and walk in life(like who doesn't have struggles!). But so many people fear opening up because they will be judged. Don't you reckon? Does anyone have an opinion on when it's appropriate and not appropriate to be open?

That's an interesting question, I am not really sure if there is a one size fits all answer. Thinking out loud a bit here, but I think you share depending on a couple of things:
Firstly I think the biggest is trust, when you feel you are around people you can trust it is a lot easier to share. The more you trust the person or group the deeper the sharing usually is.

Secondly, I think you sometimes way up the benefit of sharing, sometimes we only have the courage to share the really deep and painful things because the benefit it could bring to others outways the fear of sharing.

lastly I think it also comes down to your past experience in sharing, if you have been harshly judged you will think twice next time around
